Our Dry Kiln Operations Course will cover the basics of kiln drying, setting / adjusting schedules, routine maintenance and managing product quality related to drying. This course is ideal for operators and quality managers empowered to make improvements and establish operational standards related to the drying process.

Monday: Guests can check in after 3:00pm
Tuesday 8am - 4pm: We will start with a brief wood science introduction specific to how and why we dry materal. We will then break down the various mechanical components of a kiln (steam kilns, direct fired gas and direct fired biofuels will all be explained) and describe what each component does to control airflow, heat, and humidity. We will evaluate the causes of inferior product quality related to the drying process and discuss the various techniques used to reduce product variability.
Wednesday 8am - 4pm: We will start with a recap from day one and spend the remainder of the day providing training on the “Best Management Practices” for both batch kilns and CDK’s. This will include preventa tive maintenance, daily maintenance observation reporting, and routine quality product moni toring. We will also discuss the cause and anticipated effect of various types of kilns schedules (how and when to make the appropriate adjustments).
